STYLISTICS:

How I want my film to look and feel will be important in reinforcing my story. Given the fact that my film has no dialog the visual will play the biggest part of the overall quality of my final piece

One piece of work that I have been looking at is the extras gum ad, in 2 minutes this ad perfectly displays an emoting connection with not only the characters but also us as the viewers. The close angles and shots create the feeling of intimacy, in a short amout of time we feel for the characters, as it’s something that everyone can relate to. In my film this is what I am trying to achieve that state of intimacy and the link between the characters and audiences.

After watching In the city of Sylvia I looked more in the work of Natasha Braier and her ways of creating visuals.  The main thing that I loved about her work is her way to make everything seem real; she doesn’t need to be over the top but at the same time doesn’t limit herself to the conversations of film. One piece of work I loved was The milk of sorrow while dealing with a different theme to my own she highlights the story through beautifully simple shoots. She creates that connection that is needed for films with a strong visual focus and gives more meaning to every shot. Visually I need to make my film as strong as I can while also creating a feeling of love as I want to trick my audiences into believing it.

Due to trying to tell a larger story then I will show I plan to create montage. A montage is a style of editing were separate sections of film are form together, this allows filmmakers to show time passing like in Rocky with his training.Due to the limited time of my film and wanting to show a build up in the relation of the characters I will use a gestalt style of montage editing. Gestalt is basically a structure that when considered whole shows more than the total of all its parts. It is a style used in films such as you are able to boil an entire relationship down to a few shots of their time together. Due to the fact that I will be trying to show a larger story then my film will display this style of editing will work well as even if you only seeing several short clips of the character’s experience together the whole experiences should be understood from the way the characters act.

Due to the way that my film will change near the end of the film I intend to change my colour along with it. At the start when it has that romantic feel to it I want to use warm colours as that can be linked with the theme of love. As the film goes on the colder the colour will get into the end this will be to show the change in balances of my film. The reason why this is important as the type of colour used will effect the type of feeling that people have. Warm colours have sure what of a happy feeling to them they make us feel warm. Were as cold colours are more likely to give a negative feeling to them, if the film has a blue tint it makes everything seem colder and can change the way the audience sees the sense.
